Duration: 3h30
Day: Friday, 10:00
Venue: Pratdip, Sala d’Exposicions
Animatron is collaborative improvisation software based on frame-by-frame animations. It combines traditional 2D animation techniques, such as stop-motion, with algorithmic sequencers to generate animations of infinite variability using very few resources. It is controlled exclusively through OSC and MIDI messages, allowing users to choose which application, device or programming language they want to control it with. This makes it very easy to integrate into multidisciplinary systems. It includes a very simple live coding editor. Animatron is free and open-source.
In the workshop, we will learn how to:
- Install the program
- Create animations to use with Animatron
- Load animations dynamically, without stopping the program
- Create animations and transform them by modifying playback speed and direction, size, colour, angle, etc.
- Create algorithmic and generative animations
- Customise the application by creating new OSC messages
- Control Animatron remotely by connecting it to MIDI devices and to applications, languages or devices that send OSC, such as mobile phones or other computers
- Synchronise animations with audio
- Improvise collaborative animations in a visual jam
Required materials: a computer with Linux, macOS or Windows operating system and a network connection.
Aimed at: illustrators, drawers, animators, photographers, videographers, visual artists, designers, creatives and curious people.
No prior knowledge of programming, animation or drawing is required.
Workshop language: Catalan
Other languages: Spanish, English.
