Winning installation of the Open Call for Digital Installative Work, carried out in collaboration with the Postgraduate Programme in Stage and Digital Technology at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona.
Carla Elias and Sidney Latil work at the intersection of performing arts, installation, sound, image and digital technology. Their practice explores spatial and interactive devices that transform the audience’s perception and propose new ways of relating to the environment. In their projects, technology functions less as a mechanism of control than as a tool for listening, attention and coexistence.
Quan no ens mires — El pacte invisible dels dips (When you’re not looking — The invisible pact of the dips) is an interactive installation by Carla Elias and Sidney Latil that takes the legend of the dips of Pratdip as a starting point to imagine another way of relating to the territory.
The piece proposes a space divided into two layers. In the first, the audience can touch natural elements —stones, branches, bark, roots or plant fragments— to activate a soundscape made of cracks, wind, insects, leaves, water and breathing. But this visible interaction is only the first level of the work.
On the other side of a translucent fabric, almost hidden, a nocturnal presence appears. When the audience stops acting, moves away or remains silent, the installation changes: the sound lowers, deeper breathing emerges, small points of red light appear among the plants and the forest seems to awaken.
The installation does not reward action, but listening. It is not about controlling the environment, but about learning to withdraw in order to perceive it. In this shift, the legend ceases to be only a story of fear and becomes a form of coexistence: the territory does not only respond, it also observes.
